God the Father is not a different person form the Son. The incarnation reveals that God himself became flesh and that flesh is known to us as the Son. further since God is God and eternally God, he is no longer a thirty three year old son in the heavens but God himself
John did not distinguish himself the Father from the Son. in 2 John 4 he tells us something rather interesting,
Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love. I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father. And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another. And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.
We have received a commandment from the Father. ‘this commandment was that we love one another’ Now we know that this commandment was given by Jesus to his disciples in John 13;34. Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him. If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorify him in himself, and shall straightway glorify him. Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say to you. A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. (John 13:31-35). Therefore according to the scripture Jesus was the Father who gave the commandments.
The Lord God gave us the ten commandments ‘And God spake all these words, saying, I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage Thou shalt have no other gods before me. (Exodus 20:1-3)
This makes sense, there cannot be two commanding officers both giving out commandments. It was the Lord God who gave out the ten commandments and it is the Lord God who we know as the Lord Jesus (because we know the lord’s name). who gave the new commandment ‘behold a new commandment I give unto you…’ (John 13;34).
