For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son (John 3;16)
That whosoever believes in him (I have to ask why did’nt God just say, ‘whoever believes in me! ‘the answer is, people everywhere believe in God, yet people everywhere will believe in many different Gods who they think are God! Here the apostles tells us Jesus was given for people everywhere to believe in someone visible tangeable, knowable, seeable! The one who made God real, the proof of God, God in the flesh yes given in flesh so men everywhere could see and know him, this is why he was given!
So did God give us his Son? First we know God did not birth a son in heaven he birthed a Son on earth. ‘For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; (Isaiah 9:6) the son was given unto us. God was not given a son. God was not given a son by a woman in heaven God was given a son by a woman on earth and further that son was THE SON OF HIMSELF’… God gave HIMSELF as a Son… and.. the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, MIGHTY GOD, EVERLASTING FATHER, Prince of Peace”.
The son was the man on earth. The Father was the deity in heaven. The deity in heaven became a Son as a result of being born of a woman. that’s when he received the name Jesus. Ponder 1 Timothy 3:16, ‘And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.’ The Son was the everlasting Father in the flesh!
the term God was manifest in the flesh tells us that God had the power to become a man (flesh), Today, Christians will tell you, God came into their life. they heart, and that they are in Christ, as new creatures. well Jesus was the firstborn of all brethren. he came into the flesh of a woman and was born of the flesh. today he still births himself into the lives and hearts of men and women, as the Lord and Saviour. Through the incarnation he came to earth, through the new birth he comes to us.
